About the Alta Shotokan Karate Dojo

Shotokan Oshima Dojo

Alta Shotokan Karate Dojo – Our dojo is an affiliate of Shotokan Karate of America (SKA), a national non-profit organization teaching traditional karate since 1955. Our dojo is one of the oldest Karate dojos in Northern California. Alta Dojo was started in 1983 and is led by Eric Harmon. Our practice is designed for all ages, and focuses on the three key elements of Karate training: Kihon (Basics), Kata (Designed routines of movements meant to simulate facing multiple opponents), and Kumite (Sparring). For curious parents, we have a long history of teaching children! Whether you are a young kid, a full grown adult, or senior citizen, there are countless mental and physical benefits to be found through practicing in Shotokan Karate of America. You are more than welcome in the Alta dojo!

Benefits of Karate Practice

Karate practice promotes mental and physical health, teaches self control, improves self-confidence, balance, focus, and strength, all while building maturity and quality of character. Our purpose is to improve ourselves through our practice and to perpetuate our art.
